Allegheny Front
Today we went to the Allegheny Front. It is located on the border of Somerset & Bedford counties in Pennsylvania. This is the beginning of the hawk migration. We saw 1 Bald Eagle, 1 Osprey, 1 Kestrel, 1 Coopers Hawk, numerous red tails, and lots of Turkey Vultures. Beautiful day as it was in the high 70's and the wind averaging 5 to 8 mph. Lots of sun & good company. Around 20 people were there today. This sight is sponsored by the Audobon Society.

Getting ready for the winter migration of birds
We have a busy fall & winter coming up. We are planning on going to the Allegheny Front to view the start of the hawk migration at the end of August.
In September we are going to Benezette Pa to view the elk. It is the largest free roaming herd east of the Mississippi River
In October we are going to Pymatuning Lake to view the fall migration of the waterfowl. These are mostly ducks on their way south.
November we are going to Coniwingo Dam in Maryland for the Bald Eagles. Just an amazing place to go and view Bald Eagles. Sometimes they will land in the trees right above your head.
In December we are going to Virginia Beach to view the whale migration and if we have time we will stop again at Coniwingo on the way back.
